Who should sign up?
We are looking for participation from citizens with disabilities that Skills Society supports, Skills Society community support workers, engaged Edmonton citizens and Edmonton public library leaders.
What will happen during the event?
There will be two parts to this event. In the first part of the day starting at 1pm on April 16th, we will hear from some inspiring citizens about what engaged citizenship means. After some discussion we will be using the Lego Serious Play method we have been using at Skills to tell stories and make ideas tangible about what we want to see in the world when we all show up as engaged citizens. Our diverse experiences and backgrounds of participants will add richness to this collaborative exploration.Around 330pm we will then offer the opportunity for anyone who wishes to share a story in the new recording studio in the Maker space of the library. Community builder and city planner David Rauch will help facilitate the recording of our stories. These stories will contribute to the Oral history project he leads to document Edmonton stories for future generations. You will be able to tell your story anonymously or choose to use your name. You could also bring a friend or support person to help you communicate your story if you would like. The questions the oral history project will ask will be…
How has having a disability made you a better person? What’s the hardest part of living with a disability in Edmonton?
What’s something you want people to know about living with a disability that they might not already know?
You would also be free to share a general cool story about Edmonton if you wish.
