Making our Mark emerged thanks to an Edmonton Arts Council grant to explore what might happen if we brought together professional SNAP artists (Adriean Koleric/Thinkitem, Sara Norquay, Lisa Rezansoff) people with disabilities, U of A anthropology students and Skills Society support workers. In the spring of 2014 this new collective met once a week in the SNAP print shop to share stories, explore,  and make art together around themes that are central to  citizenship. The title “Making our Mark” points to aspects of print making as well as to how people want to show up in the world and make a mark. During the exploration, three themes emerged: Pride, Play and Freedom.  Three artist-led teams explored how their theme relates to citizenship. We hope the art causes people to think hard about the diverse perspective and richness that citizens with disabilities bring to our communities, and that the social value and visibility of that perspective is enhanced through collaborative work with awesome artists.
